Blog 1- History

This blog is suppose to be based on the history of my subject. Being that I am focusing on the use of video games in White Nationalism, I have searched upon countless hours of finding a good source to trace its history so instead of a good history base I am sharing some of the ideas that White Nationalism games are based on.

White Nationalism games are found mostly online or ordered through various outlets, but rarely do you find a game made on a traditional popular platform (i.e. Xbox 360, Playstation, Wii). The reason behind this is because a major manufacturer does not want to be associated with White Nationalist groups. Along with the major manufacturer who allows which games are allowed to be made/ produced for its platform, you rarely find a major video game developer (i.e. EA sports, Activision) to produce a game for the same reasons. But rather you find games being produced in Flash that are available online which are often times produced by Resistance Records who is actually a music label owned by National Alliance.

These games are made to promote the White Nationalist ideologies of a pure white race and cleansing the world of the "others". In games where a first character is played you find the majority of the controlled character being a white male "More than 50% of player-controlled characters are White males" (http://nideffer.net/classes/270-08/week_07_gender_economy/rimpofrace_leonard.pdf pg. 84). This is a stunning fact but the way these characters are used is even more stunning. Most games produced are based on the foundation of killing minorities, not just killing one but killing all. The more ethnic cleansing completed the further you are to proceed in the game.

Here is an example of one of the most popular or well known game produced by Resistance Records.

  1. What is the specific history behind video games within white nationalist communities; who produces and what is the history of those groups? What has been the history of resistance to the use of video game technology (what is the research tell us)

  2. How prominent are video games within the recruitment of the white nationalist movement? Is it very successful?

  3. Do you think video games have to do with the images and ideologies that affect our beliefs from prisons? I only say this because my topic is on white nationalists with in prison gangs, and with what the games propose, it idealize and stereotypes what white gangs do within prison.
